February 12, first Russian coal gas enterprise was launched at Taldinskoye coal deposit, Kuznetsk Basin. Dmitriy Medvedev (Russia, President), Alexey Miller (Gazprom JS, chairman of the board), Aman Tuleyev (Kemerovo Region, governor) took part in the ceremony.
Russian reserves of coal field gas have been estimated at 84 trillion cubic m, that is, equal to one third of the national reserves of natural gas. Kuzbass’ coal field gas reserves amount to 13 trillion cubic m, making feasible its stand-alone production outside mine fields.
