According to Russian accountancy standards, the net profit totaled 8.517 bn roubles (–82.2 per cent against 2008), the company informs. Its 2008 net profit equaled 48.085 bn roubles (+44 per cent against 2007).
Mechel embraces producers of coal and iron-ore concentrate, steel and rolled metal, ferroalloys, higher value-added products as well as of thermal and electric energy. In 2008, it produced 5.496 m t of steel (–7 per cent against 2008), 17.782 m t of coal (–32.6 per cent), 10.243 m t (–32.3 per cent) of coking coal and 7.539 m t (–33 per cent) of steam coal.
