08.09.2010 Russia can cover Chinese shortage of coal

By 2020, the shortage may reach 1.6 bn t, Van Huazhang, Assistant Director of the State Committee’s Department for Northwest of China revival, said during VI Baikal Forum in Irkutsk (Russia).

Today, only one tenth of Chinese coal imports are provided by Russia, so there exists a grand potential for increasing the Russian share. To achieve this goal, a fast development of transport infrastructure, including construction of Amur bridge in Jewish Autonomous Region, is needed. This would allow to boost the annual transportation of cargoes between Far-East regions of Russia and N.–E. China to 30 m t.
